In Newton Class (Year 1), we learn through a range of exciting projects. This term Newton’s Class’ new topic will be ‘The Enchanted Forest. The classroom features a forest area, a castle and a ‘reading area' where there is information about Emma Yarlett the Author of ‘Nibbles the Book Monster.’ It’s going to be an amazing term and the children will have an enjoyable experience throughout the term.
We teach literacy through our project, with many opportunities for the children to write, developing their sentence structure, handwriting and spelling. Our books link closely the theme for the term including Nibbles the book monster, Goldilocks, Red Riding Hood, Jack and The Beanstalk and lots of Emma Yarlett’s books.
Mathematics is also linked to our project where possible and covers the curriculum for Year 1. We teach maths in practical and exciting ways to deepen the children's understanding. We also use of the Forest School area for maths, literacy and project. Outside learning gives children a fantastic opportunity to explore and be creative and so where possible, reading and creating stories will take place within the Forest School.
