Anning Class
In Anning Class, we strive to provide all the children with high-quality teaching and learning, following the guidelines and objectives within the National Curriculum. This summer term will be packed full of exciting learning and collaborative opportunities, all linked to our brand-new project of Africa! This will include a superb starter, a mix-it-up middle and a fantastic art themed end of term project, as well as our magical leavers’ showcase!
In English, we will continue to use a range of engaging texts to generate writing. These will include Journey to Jo’Burg, The Fastest Boy in the World, A Long Walk to Water and some African fables and short stories. The children will produce a range of fiction and non-fiction pieces of writing, such as: letters, diary entries, non-chronological reports and stories.
In maths, we will continue to revise the previously taught areas of the curriculum in preparation for SATs in May. We will re-cap learning such as: arithmetic, measure, shape and geometry, graphs, data and ratio, inputting this knowledge into problem solving tasks. Once SATs are complete, our main aim will be to prepare the children for their transition into secondary school. We will do this by deepening and challenging mathematical learning through investigations and problem solving.
We will also cover many areas of the wider curriculum, inspired by our project. History lessons will revolve around Ancient Benin and the slave trade (Maafa). The children will gain an in-depth understanding of the challenges that people of colour have faced throughout history, developing their empathy and awareness.
In art, we will explore incredible black artists and African art. The children will analyse this and create their own interpretation and in music, we will learn all about African music and African beats.
It is crucial that all members of Anning Class have a fantastic learning experience at school, especially in their final term at John Hellins. We always ensure that wonderful memories are made so that the children can look fondly at their time at John Hellins in the future.
