Anning Class

In Anning Class (Year 6), we strive to provide our amazing children with high-quality teaching and exciting, challenging learning. By following the guidelines and objectives within the National Curriculum, we are able to provide children with a diverse curriculum that actively interests them. The Spring term will, as always, be jam packed; this will be directly linked to our new topic: Climate Change - Be the Change!

It is crucial to ensure that all children are provided with the chance to explore high-quality fiction and non-fiction texts within their English lessons. Therefore, lots of our writing opportunities will be derived from books! Some of these include: Holes, Why the Whales Came and the Little People: Big Dreams, a David Attenborough book. The children will produce a range of fiction and non-fiction pieces of writing: persuasive speeches, commentaries, biographies, stories, letters and diary entries.

In maths, we will have lots of opportunity to ensure all children secure and deepen their understanding of the curriculum. The children will continue to work hard in areas such as place value and number, geometry, algebra, ratio, proportion and fractions, decimals and percentages. They will also have plenty of opportunity to deepen their fluency in preparation for the SATs in May.

Using our project title as inspiration, we will be able to cover many other exciting areas of the curriculum within our project work. Science lessons will revolve around evolution, adaptation and inheritance, as well as classification of living things. In geography, we will be exploring environmental changes in the Arctic and Antarctica, as well as the benefits of recycling. The children will be taking part in lots of art and D&T lessons this term: collage, digital art, nutrition and food, to name a few. In music, we will explore Hans Zimmer and his stunning soundtrack to Sir David Attenborough’s series Blue Planet II, as well as learn how music and musical instruments can replicate emotions, feelings and animals.

This project will prove to hold a fantastic array of practical and challenging learning for all children. We look forward to developing all children’s understanding of our spectacular planet, and how we can do our bit to take care of our futures!
