Edison Class
In Edison class we follow the national curriculum for maths and English. Our creative curriculum allows us to link, through projects, all the other curriculum areas of: science, history, geography, DT, art, music, cooking and nutrition and computing.
Our autumn project is called ‘Explorers’. We will be looking at some of the most famous explorers the world has produced, including Ernest Shackleton and Edmund Hillary. We will be developing our English writing skills, including using a variety of punctuation and ensuring our capital letters and full stops are in the correct places. Our classroom will be themed around our project, featuring a cosy reading corner and beautiful fabrics draped across the ceiling.
During English, we will begin reading the story ‘The Emperor’s Egg’. This is a wonderful story about the life of penguins in Antarctica. We will write a biography about the life of Ernest Shackleton and his expedition to Antarctica.
This project will have a geographical and scientific focus. The children will learn how to use a compass and describe the basic needs of animals, including humans, for survival.
In music, the children will learn what sounds can be used to create a seascape and know how to compare music from around the world using musical language.
Mathematics is also linked to our project where possible and covers the curriculum for year 2. We teach maths in practical, progressive and exciting ways to deepen the children's understanding. This term we will be covering place value.
