Physical Education

At John Hellins Primary School, physical education (PE) is taught throughout the year and in line with the PE national curriculum.

The physical education curriculum has been designed so that as children move through their school years, from Reception to Year 6, they progress and build on their knowledge and skills. It has been designed to recap and increase their current knowledge and skills, which can be brought into sports and games played in upper Key Stage 2.

At John Hellins Primary School we believe in leading a healthy active lifestyle. As part of this, we have an annual dedicated healthy, active lifestyle day to reinforce the importance of living an active life. We offer active and engaging lunchtime activities with many opportunities for our children to engage in the 30 active minutes within the school day.

There are a variety of sports, games and activities covered in the physical education curriculum and timetable. Some of these are specific inclusive sports such as boccia, goalball and archery, as well as more traditional sports such as football, tennis and rugby.

Additionally, we are also part of a PE cluster (with other schools in the local area). As part of this, we participate in a range of competitions and festivals across the school year. Some examples of pervious competitions and festivals we haven part in are quadkids athletics, boccia and football. As a school we also host and participate in intra-school competitions such as sports day and cross country.

The PE and Sport Premium is used to develop and improve our PE provision across the school, ensuring we align with all government guidelines. The PE and Sport Premium documents can be found under the physical education section of our website.
