KS2

In KS2 at John Hellins Primary School we aim to provide immersive classroom environments that excite and engage the children.  We strive to ensure that the children are given a wealth of opportunities to further deepen their knowledge and understanding, whilst the vital skills of reading, spelling, maths and writing are paramount and embedded in all lessons.

English

We constantly review how we teach English and use a variety of strategies to teach spellings and reading depending on the children’s individual needs. Our aim is that pupils will leave us confident and independent in reading and writing.  We foster a love of all learning and we have a high emphasis on reading for pleasure.  Pupils will develop their reading skills through 1:1 reading interviews, guided readings sessions, whole class text analysis and reading sessions, independent reading and through sharing a challenging text with their class which we call their Class Reader.

At the bottom of this page is a document which will support you at home with reading, and in each class tab is a spelling document which will enable your child to reach their full potential.

Maths

Maths is taught daily in John Hellins and we ensure we consolidate previous learning before we deliver new concepts and extend the children, ensuring that they are provided challenge in every lesson.  Timetables are fundamental to all maths concepts and below is a shortcut to a piece of educational software that you can access at home.  This can be accessed via a web browser using the following link https://ttrockstars.com/   Each child has their own user ID and password.  In addition, the Maths Curriculum details can be found in the document attached below.

If you have any problems with these then please contact your child's teacher.

Project

Our curriculum is the vehicle through which we achieve the ‘WOW’ factor in our school and we ensure it is engaging, broad and rich.

From September 2014 have been working with the new National Curriculum, using it as a guide to deliver its objectives and other relevant key information that enhances the children’s knowledge.  Our project themes are built around the children's interests, this ensures high levels of engagement.  Our highly skilled teachers ensure full coverage of the National Curriculum through these projects, across the year and over time.  Details of each classes’ curriculum, their current project plan and examples of previous project plans can be viewed on their class pages.
