Modern Foreign Languages

At John Hellins Primary School we teach French in KS2.  Our curriculum is based on iLanguages, and we follow their scheme of work. Children all receive regular lessons and have opportunities to listen to and speak the French language.  As children progress to upper KS2 they then begin to learn about written French and have opportunities to write words, phrases and sentences in French.

The iLanguages scheme focuses on teaching phonics, grammar and vocabulary as these are the building blocks for MFL language acquisition. It also exposes children to French songs and rhymes.  It has been carefully planned to be a fully progressive curriculum.  Feel free to have a look at the progression map below and also the iLanguages website for more information.
