Einstein Class

In Einstein Class, we follow the National Curriculum for numeracy and literacy. Our creative curriculum allows us to link with other projects across additional curriculum areas, including science, history, geography, DT, art, music, cooking and nutrition, and computing.

Our summer project is called Emperors and Empires, where we will explore different periods of history, examining where the Romans fit in the timeline in comparison to the Greeks.

Our projects run for a term and involve exciting experiences for the children, including trips, visitors, child-led “Google” days, and WOW days.

During science lessons, we will study forces and magnets. We will explore how magnets work, how magnetism relates to the Earth’s rotation and its interaction with space, and classify materials as magnetic or non-magnetic, looking for patterns and similarities.

In history, we will conduct an in-depth study of the Roman Empire. This will include learning about Julius Caesar, Boudicca, famous Roman landmarks such as the Colosseum, the differences between the lives of the rich and poor, the start of the Roman Empire in the UK, the size of the Empire, Roman gods, and religion in Roman society.

In music, we will listen to early Roman music and compare it to modern melodic compositions. We will also learn a Roman song and perform it.

During art lessons, we will work with clay, designing and creating Roman-inspired coins and pots. We will focus on skills such as joining clay, imprinting designs, and layering. We will also explore mosaics and the repeated patterns used by the Romans.

In geography, we will study Italy and the scale of the Roman Empire, understanding where it was located at its peak. We will also examine Sardinia and Sicily, exploring their physical and human features.

In computing, we will continue our work on editing and improving photography, while also discussing internet safety.

Our RE topics for the summer are Islam and Big Questions. We will explore what followers of Islam believe and how they worship. For the “Big Questions,” we will consider:

Whose world is it?

How do religions help people spiritually, physically, and mentally?

What are the various religious symbols, and why are they significant?

For our Superb Starter, we will design and create our own Roman shields to use in a re-enactment of Roman soldier formations. Our Mix It Up in the Middle will involve applying our clay and sculpting skills to design and create Roman coins and pots. Our Enthralling Ending will consist of a Roman Feast Day, where the children will prepare, cook, and sample foods from a traditional Roman feast. We will also take a trip to the Milton Keynes Discovery Centre to participate in a Roman Day.
